Associate Director – Core Laboratory Operations

About the role

The Associate Director, Core Laboratory Operations will lead the strategic planning, development and day‑to‑day management of the university’s research laboratory infrastructure. This senior position ensures that laboratory spaces, equipment and services align with Khalifa University’s research priorities and maintain the highest standards of safety and excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the department’s strategy, policies and procedures for new and existing laboratory facilities, ensuring alignment with university research goals.
• Oversee budgeting, monitor performance against financial targets and report variances promptly.
• Manage compliance with safety regulations, protocols and best practices across all research labs.
• Provide technical assistance to faculty, researchers and students, facilitating access to specialized instrumentation and supporting interdisciplinary projects.
• Lead staff development, conduct performance appraisals, mentor team members and coordinate training to enhance internal capabilities.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Science or Engineering; a Ph.D. is preferred.
• Minimum of 12 years of experience in research laboratory operations, including at least 5 years in a senior managerial role, preferably within higher‑education institutions.
• Proven track record in strategic planning, budget management and safety compliance for complex laboratory environments.
• Strong leadership and communication skills to interface with faculty, external partners and internal departments.
