Bosun for Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger

About the role

The Bosun will supervise the deck crew on a trailing suction hopper dredger, ensuring safe and efficient execution of all deck operations.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, assign and monitor daily deck tasks such as mooring, anchoring, towing and dredging support.
• Maintain deck equipment (winches, cranes, wires, shackles, lifting gear) in safe working condition.
• Oversee rigging, slinging and lifting operations in coordination with officers and crane operators.
• Conduct routine maintenance, painting, greasing and housekeeping of deck areas.
• Enforce safety procedures, conduct toolbox talks and ensure proper use of PPE.
• Assist in dredging operations, pipeline handling, floating lines, anchors and spud operations.
• Coordinate with bridge and engine room for smooth deck machinery operation.
• Maintain inventory of deck stores, tools and consumables.

Required profile

• 5‑10 years of experience on dredgers, preferably trailing suction hopper types.
• SYCW training and Navigation Watch certificate.
• Ability to train and guide deck ratings (ABs, OS) and maintain high seamanship standards.
• Experience with emergency drills such as fire, man overboard and abandon ship.

Required skills

• Operation and maintenance of deck equipment including winches, cranes and lifting gear.
• Rigging, slinging and safe lifting practices.
• Knowledge of safety management systems and permit‑to‑work procedures.
