Commercial Director - Wastewater Pumping Projects

About the role

An experienced Commercial Director is sought to lead the commercial function for major water, wastewater and pumping station infrastructure projects in the UAE. The ideal candidate has worked extensively with contracting companies on such projects and has previously held a senior commercial leadership role. Candidates must be currently based in the UAE, with immediate or short-notice availability preferred.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic commercial leadership for water, wastewater, pumping station and infrastructure projects.
• Oversee commercial and contractual aspects from pre-award through completion.
• Lead contract administration, commercial negotiations, claims, variations, extensions of time and final accounts.
• Manage commercial risks and protect the company's contractual and financial interests.
• Monitor project costs, revenue, profitability, cash flow and overall commercial performance.
• Review, negotiate and administer main contracts, subcontracts and commercial agreements.
• Lead the preparation, submission and negotiation of claims and variations.
• Work closely with project management, engineering, procurement, finance and legal teams.
• Advise senior management and lead, manage and develop the commercial and contracts team.
• Implement commercial controls and procedures, support tendering and business development, and manage client and consultant relationships.

Required profile

• Proven experience as Commercial Director, Senior Commercial Manager or equivalent; strong background with contracting companies.
• Extensive experience in water and wastewater infrastructure and pumping station projects.
• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
• MRICS, MCIOB or equivalent is an advantage; previous UAE / GCC experience highly preferred.
• Western candidates only, as per client requirement.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of FIDIC contracts, contract administration, claims, variations, EOTs and dispute resolution.
• Experience managing large-scale, complex infrastructure projects.
• Strong commercial, contractual, negotiation and leadership skills.
