Commis I - Kitchen Assistant

About the role

JW Marriott in Dubai is looking for a Commis I (kitchen assistant) to prepare meals and support the kitchen team. The position is full time and based in the Al Jaddaf area of Dubai.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare special meals or substitute items and cook food according to recipes, quality standards, presentation standards and the food preparation checklist.
• Regulate the temperature of ovens, broilers, grills and roasters, and pull food from freezer storage to thaw in the refrigerator.
• Ensure proper portion, arrangement and garnish, and monitor the quality and quantity of food prepared.
• Prepare cold foods and maintain food logs.
• Inform the Chef of excess food items for daily specials and inform food and beverage staff of menu specials and out-of-stock items.
• Anticipate guest service needs and communicate assistance needed during busy periods.
• Assist management with hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, counseling, disciplining and motivating staff, and act as a role model.
• Follow company and safety policies, report accidents and unsafe conditions, complete safety training, and keep a clean, professional appearance.

Required profile

• Preferred: technical, trade or vocational school degree.
• Preferred: at least 3 years of related work experience.
• No supervisory experience required.
• Physical ability to stand, sit or walk for long periods, bend, twist and lift objects up to 25 pounds.
