Department Manager

About the role

The Department Manager is responsible for overseeing the day‑to‑day operations of a single department within a large‑format, big‑box retail store. This role ensures smooth departmental performance, drives sales, and meets key performance indicators while delivering high levels of customer satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee overall department performance, ensuring operational excellence and adherence to company policies.
• Track and report key KPIs such as sales targets, conversion rates, customer satisfaction scores, and stock loss prevention.
• Maintain high visual merchandising standards and create an inviting shopping experience.
• Manage inventory levels, conduct regular stock audits, and coordinate replenishment to minimise overstock and loss.
• Ensure security and safety compliance, proactively reducing theft and maintaining a safe environment.
• Lead, mentor and develop the department team through coaching, training and performance management.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing a department in a large‑format retail environment.
• Demonstrated ability to achieve sales targets and meet KPI objectives.
• Strong customer‑service orientation with a focus on delivering excellent experiences.
• Leadership skills to mentor, develop and motivate a team.
