Design Lead (Secondary) – Substation Electrical

About the role

The Design Lead (Secondary) will define, review and execute secondary engineering activities for substation and power distribution projects. This senior position requires advanced knowledge of protection and automation systems and the ability to lead a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver engineering drawings and documents on schedule, ensuring alignment with project timelines.
• Review primary drawings, check design and sizing calculations, and obtain client approvals.
• Prepare design philosophy for protection, control, signalling and automation, and review functional description documents.
• Coordinate with vendors, validate technical specifications, and inspect equipment before hand‑over.
• Estimate man‑hours, review BOQs, provide technical clarifications, and support site execution teams.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in secondary substation engineering, including schemes, wiring diagrams, SCADA and control systems.
• Hands‑on expertise with design software and knowledge of national and international codes and standards.
• Ability to lead engineers and draughtspersons, manage budgets and ensure quality of deliverables.
• Strong multitasking skills to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
