Director, Center for Arab Studies & Islamic Civilizations (CASIC)

About the role

The Center for Arab Studies and Islamic Civilizations (CASIC) at the American University of Sharjah seeks a full‑time Faculty Director. The Director will lead the centre’s academic agenda, oversee the UNESCO Chair in Arabic Language, AI and Digital Heritage, and shape its regional and global impact.

Key responsibilities

• Provide academic leadership and set the long‑term strategic direction for CASIC.
• Build and nurture partnerships with local and international institutions, including the Sharjah Art Foundation and UNESCO.
• Develop multidisciplinary research programmes that combine traditional scholarship with modern digital methods.
• Promote talent development through graduate research, post‑doctoral fellowships and visiting scholars.

Required profile

• PhD in Arabic studies, Islamic civilization or a closely related discipline.
• Proven record of academic and research leadership, with experience in an American‑mode higher‑education environment.
• Willingness to relocate to the UAE by December 2026.
