Estimation & Design Engineer – Switchgear

About the role

The client, a leading UAE‑based electrical trading and manufacturing firm, is seeking an experienced Estimation & Design Engineer to lead the costing and technical design of low‑voltage (LV) switchgear and electrical panels. The role involves translating customer enquiries and tender documents into accurate technical solutions and competitive quotations.

Key responsibilities

• Review customer enquiries, tender specifications and electrical drawings.
• Prepare technical and commercial estimations for LV switchgear and panels.
• Generate BOQs, BOMs and material take‑offs.
• Select appropriate switchgear components based on project requirements.
• Create single‑line diagrams (SLDs) and electrical schematics.
• Develop panel layouts and support detailed engineering.
• Calculate costing for ACBs, MCCBs, MCBs, busbars, enclosures, meters, CTs and protection devices.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier pricing in coordination with procurement.
• Produce competitive quotations while maintaining project margins.
• Ensure compliance with consultant/client specifications and IEC standards.
• Coordinate with sales, procurement, production and project teams.
• Respond to technical sub‑mittals and customer queries.

Required profile

• 5–7 years of UAE experience in LV switchgear estimation and design.
• Hands‑on experience with MDB, SMDB, FDB, MCC, ATS and APFC panels.
• Strong knowledge of ACB, MCCB, MCB, RCCB, contactors, overload relays, busbars, CTs, meters and protection devices.
• Proven ability to prepare BOQ, BOM, costing and commercial quotations.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical SLDs, schematics and technical specifications.
