General Practitioner – Family Medicine

About the role

The General Practitioner – Family Medicine is responsible for delivering comprehensive, evidence‑based primary healthcare to patients across different age groups. The role focuses on diagnosing and managing acute and chronic conditions, providing preventive care, promoting healthy lifestyles, and coordinating referrals to ensure continuity of care.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive primary healthcare services to patients of all ages.
• Assess, diagnose and manage common acute and chronic medical conditions.
• Develop and monitor individualized treatment plans for diabetes, hypertension, asthma and cardiovascular disease.
• Conduct routine examinations, preventive screenings, vaccinations and health education.
• Order and interpret laboratory tests, imaging studies and other diagnostic investigations.
• Perform minor medical procedures within granted clinical privileges.
• Identify cases requiring specialist referral and coordinate appropriate follow‑up.
• Provide urgent and non‑urgent care in line with clinical protocols.
• Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members and comply with M42 policies and regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MBBS, MD or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
• Completed internship and clinical training.
• Valid General Practitioner licence from the Department of Health, Abu Dhabi, or eligibility to obtain one.
• Relevant experience in family medicine, primary healthcare or outpatient care.
• Demonstrated ability to manage acute illnesses, chronic diseases and preventive care.
• Current Basic Life Support certification; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support preferred.
• Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic and decision‑making capabilities.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for multidisciplinary work.
• Commitment to ethical practice, patient safety, confidentiality and continuous professional development.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (preferred).
