Head of English Department (EYFS–KS5)

About the role

The school is seeking a dynamic leader to head the English department across all key stages, from Early Years Foundation Stage to Key Stage 5. Reporting to senior leadership, the Head of English will drive curriculum excellence and foster a love of English among pupils.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and day‑to‑day management of the English department in both primary and secondary phases.
• Develop and implement a clear vision and improvement plan aligned with the school’s overall development strategy.
• Lead, mentor and appraise teaching staff and teaching assistants, organising CPD and performance reviews.
• Design, review and ensure progression of an engaging English curriculum from EYFS to KS5.
• Monitor teaching quality through lesson observations, learning walks and data‑driven analysis.
• Use assessment data to identify under‑achievement, plan interventions and raise attainment for all learners, including SEND and EAL.
• Collaborate with other subject and phase leaders to ensure consistency and support whole‑school priorities.
• Uphold safeguarding policies and model professional conduct.

Required profile

• Relevant university degree (e.g., BA in English or related field) and teaching qualification such as PGDE/PGCE or Master’s degree.
• Minimum of 4 years of teaching experience, with proven leadership experience in an international school setting.
• Strong knowledge of national English curricula and assessment frameworks.
