Head of Year 12 – Lead Academic & Pastoral Development

About the role

GEMS Wellington Academy – Al Khail is seeking an outstanding Head of Year 12 to lead the Year 12 cohort from August 2026. The role combines academic oversight with pastoral care, ensuring students develop confidence, independence and a positive attitude to learning.

Key responsibilities

• Lead pastoral care and wellbeing for the Year 12 cohort.
• Promote high standards of behaviour, attendance and engagement.
• Monitor academic progress and coordinate interventions.
• Line‑manage Year 12 form tutors and support their development.
• Build strong relationships with parents and communicate effectively.
• Foster a positive year‑group culture through enrichment activities.
• Track attendance, behaviour and wellbeing, providing timely support.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to safeguarding and compliance.
• Contribute to whole‑school priorities and initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience within a school setting.
• Strong understanding of pastoral care and student development.
• Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent) and a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

Required skills

• Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lead and support staff effectively.
