Healthcare Aide – Postnatal Department

About the role

The Postnatal Healthcare Aide supports new mothers and their newborns during the critical recovery period after delivery. Working under the supervision of registered nurses and midwives, the aide ensures comfort, safety, and hygiene for both mother and baby in a fast‑paced hospital environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist mothers with personal care, hygiene, and mobility following delivery.
• Provide basic newborn care such as bathing, diapering, and hygiene maintenance.
• Support breastfeeding under nursing guidance.
• Facilitate early mobilization of post‑operative and postnatal patients.
• Prepare patients for procedures and examinations.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment, including baby cots and equipment.
• Manage stock and consumables for the unit.
• Assist with patient feeding, hydration, and comfort measures.
• Respond promptly to call bells and patient requests.
• Escort patients and newborns for investigations or transfers.
• Follow infection prevention and control protocols, including hand hygiene and PPE use.
• Dispose of clinical waste safely according to hospital policy.
• Provide emotional support while ensuring privacy and dignity.
• Communicate effectively with patients and the multidisciplinary team.
• Attend mandatory training and maintain required clinical competencies.

Required profile

• Completion of a certified nursing assistant course (preferred).
• Experience in inpatient, gynaecology, labour & delivery settings.
