Legal Counsel, Energy Sector

About the role

Taylor Wessing has partnered with a leading energy company to appoint a Legal Counsel to join its legal team in Abu Dhabi. The role supports the business across corporate, commercial, contractual, regulatory and contentious matters, offering an experienced lawyer a varied, business-facing position within a major industrial organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide practical legal advice to senior and line management on matters with legal, regulatory and commercial implications.
• Review corporate and commercial contracts, tender documentation, bidders' qualifications, bank guarantees, performance bonds and insurance policies.
• Support the management of external litigation and claims, including employment-related matters and cases before local courts or authorities.
• Monitor UAE and Abu Dhabi legislative developments and advise the business on applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
• Manage relationships with government bodies, licensing authorities and external counsel, and support legal documentation, records and reporting.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with a bachelor's degree in law or an equivalent recognised professional qualification.
• At least six years of legal practice and advisory experience, ideally in a large industrial organisation or the oil and gas sector.
• Strong knowledge of corporate and commercial law, contract law and labour law.
• Thorough understanding of UAE and Abu Dhabi legal requirements and procedures affecting corporate organisations.
• Full professional proficiency in English; Arabic is advantageous.
