Mechanical Engineer – Design (Medium Voltage Switchgear)

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer – Design specialized in Medium Voltage (MV) switchgear to develop detailed mechanical designs, ensure compliance with IEC standards and support manufacturing in Dubai.

Key responsibilities

• Design sheet‑metal enclosures, panel structures and internal mounting for MV switchgear up to 36 kV, producing GA, fabrication and part drawings.
• Perform structural strength checks and verify short‑circuit mechanical withstand requirements.
• Develop and maintain standard mechanical design modules, optimise for manufacturability and cost.
• Coordinate thermal and ventilation requirements with the electrical team and support temperature rise testing.
• Collaborate with production to ensure fabrication feasibility, support FAT preparation and resolve mechanical NCRs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 4–8 years of experience in switchgear, panel board or sheet‑metal enclosure design.
• Detail‑oriented with a strong understanding of manufacturing constraints.
• Effective coordination with electrical and production teams.

Required skills

• Sheet‑metal design and fabrication processes.
• SolidWorks or equivalent 3D modelling tools.
• AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of IEC 62271 enclosure and internal arc requirements.
• Understanding of surface treatment, powder coating and corrosion protection standards.
