Open Rank Faculty Position – 19th & 20th Century History

About the role

The Department of International Studies seeks an open‑rank faculty member to teach and research 19th‑ and 20th‑century history. The position starts in Fall 2027 and is based on the American University of Sharjah campus.

Key responsibilities

• Teach World History survey courses and, where applicable, the US History survey.
• Deliver upper‑level courses aligned with the candidate’s research expertise.
• Design and develop new courses in the candidate’s specialization.
• Contribute to the department’s growing graduate program.
• Participate in departmental and university service activities.
• Seek internal grant funding for course releases and research travel.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in History.
• At least one year of documented excellent teaching experience.
• Consistent research output in reputable venues.
• Ability to teach US History survey (preferred).
• Experience with the American model of higher education.
• Willingness to reside in the UAE from August 2026.
