Postdoctoral Associate – Advanced Membrane Technologies for Desalination

About the role

NYU Abu Dhabi seeks a Postdoctoral Associate to advance reverse osmosis membrane technologies for sustainable desalination of Arabian Gulf seawater. The role involves independent and collaborative research on polymeric membranes to address high salinity, temperature, fouling, and scaling challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct experimental research on membrane design, fabrication, and performance evaluation.
• Characterize membranes using advanced analytical techniques and develop structure‑property‑performance relationships.
• Analyze data, publish in peer‑reviewed journals, and present at conferences.
• Assist in grant proposal preparation and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members.

Required profile

• PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Polymer Science or related field.
• Strong experimental research record with independent scientific productivity.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication.
• Ability to work both independently and within multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Fabrication of thin‑film composite membranes.
• SEM, AFM, FTIR, Raman, XPS, XRD, contact angle, zeta potential, TGA, DSC, mechanical testing.
• Porosity, thickness measurements, cross‑flow testing, permeability and salt rejection evaluation.
