Research Assistant – Molecular Virology Lab

About the role

The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates University, is seeking a Research Assistant to join Prof. Farah Mustafa’s laboratory. The role focuses on studying the molecular basis of replication and pathogenesis of mouse mammary tumor virus (MMTV) and its interaction with host cellular mechanisms.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate viral and cellular factors that regulate MMTV gene expression.
• Study MMTV interactions with host microRNAs and the miRNA biogenesis machinery (Drosha, Dicer, Argonaute).
• Analyze transcriptomic and epigenetic changes in mammary epithelial cells caused by MMTV.
• Collaborate on projects related to RNA transport, packaging, and assembly.
• Contribute to the development of gene transfer systems for potential gene‑therapy applications.

Required profile

• Master of Science degree in biology or a closely related scientific field.
• Strong background in molecular and cellular biology.
• Experience handling and manipulating both eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells.
• Cloning experience is preferred.
• Enthusiastic, ambitious, and hard‑working attitude.
