Senior Civil & Structural Design Engineer – HV/EHV Substations

About the role

POWERCHINA is expanding its Engineering & Design Center in Dubai and seeks a Senior Civil & Structural Design Engineer with hands‑on experience in high‑voltage (HV/EHV) substation projects. The role involves delivering complete civil and structural designs for AIS and GIS substations up to 400 kV.

Key responsibilities

• Perform civil and structural engineering design for HV/EHV AIS and GIS substations, including foundations, buildings, and equipment support structures.
• Prepare structural calculations, foundation drawings, general arrangement drawings and detailed engineering deliverables.
• Design cable trenches, pits, retaining walls, underground structures and associated civil works.
• Review geotechnical reports, soil investigation data and coordinate with electrical, MEP and multidisciplinary teams.
• Ensure compliance with international standards and support technical submissions for UAE/GCC utility projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Minimum 7 years of civil/structural design experience with substantial HV/EHV substation projects (132 kV, 220 kV, 400 kV or above).
• Direct hands‑on experience in AIS/GIS substation design, reinforced concrete, structural steel and equipment foundations.

Required skills

• Proficiency in STAAD.Pro, ETABS, SAFE or equivalent structural design software.
• Strong AutoCAD skills for detailed drawing preparation and review.
• Knowledge of ACI, AISC, Eurocodes, BS or other applicable international design standards.
• Familiarity with Civil 3D, Revit or BIM is a plus.
