Senior Civil/Roads Engineer

About the role

KBR is seeking an experienced Senior Civil/Roads Engineer to lead the design and delivery of road infrastructure for large‑scale oil & gas and industrial projects. The role covers greenfield and brownfield developments from concept through detailed design and construction support.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and engineering of access roads, internal plant roads, heavy‑haul roads and paved areas.
• Prepare road alignment, geometric and pavement designs (flexible and rigid) in line with international standards.
• Design road drainage systems, including surface drainage, culverts, ditches and storm‑water networks.
• Produce technical specifications, material take‑offs (MTOs) and scope of work documents.
• Review and approve road layouts, longitudinal and cross profiles, and detailed drawings.
• Coordinate with structural, process, pipeline, electrical and instrumentation disciplines to resolve interface issues.
• Support tendering activities, technical bid evaluations and respond to contractor queries.
• Provide construction‑phase support, reviewing method statements and material submissions.
• Conduct value‑engineering studies to optimise design for safety, durability and cost.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s in Highway/Road Engineering preferred).
• 8–12 years of experience in road design and construction for oil & gas or industrial projects.
• Proven ability to manage projects from concept to construction.

Required skills

• Road alignment and geometric design.
• Pavement design calculations for flexible and rigid pavements.
• Traffic loading analysis, including heavy equipment and abnormal loads.
• Soil condition and environmental factor assessment.
• Road drainage design (surface drainage, culverts, storm‑water networks).
• Preparation of technical specifications and material take‑offs.
• Review of road layouts, longitudinal and cross profiles.
• Knowledge of AASHTO, BS, ASTM and Iraqi standards.
• Tender technical evaluation and construction‑phase support.
• Value‑engineering and cost‑optimisation techniques.
