Senior Mechanical Engineer

About the role

GHD is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of complex mechanical systems for buildings, infrastructure and industrial projects in Abu Dhabi. This senior position combines technical excellence, project delivery and client engagement across all project phases.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design from concept through construction and commissioning.
• Ensure compliance with ASHRAE, IPC, NFPA, CIBSE and local authority standards.
• Conduct technical reviews, calculations, simulations and value‑engineering studies.
• Utilise BIM, Revit and energy‑modelling tools to optimise designs.
• Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
• Perform site inspections, audits and performance assessments.
• Identify technical risks, close design gaps and propose practical solutions.
• Support project managers with progress tracking, risk management and schedule adherence.
• Engage directly with clients to present solutions and build long‑term relationships.
• Contribute to sustainability initiatives and digital engineering improvements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 8–12 years of experience in mechanical engineering, specifically building services in the UAE.
• Proven track record of leading complex mechanical projects.
• Strong knowledge of local regulations and international standards.
