About the role
Arup is seeking a Senior Transmission Engineer to join its Energy team in Dubai. You will provide specialist technical expertise for transmission, grid‑connection and renewable‑energy infrastructure projects across the Middle East and Africa.
Key responsibilities
- Lead technical design and delivery of high‑voltage transmission, substation and grid‑connection projects, including solutions for solar, wind, hybrid and BESS developments.
- Develop system concepts, single‑line diagrams, substation layouts, equipment specifications and overhead‑line or underground‑cable solutions.
- Coordinate primary plant, secondary systems, protection, control, civil, structural and telecommunications interfaces.
- Conduct power‑system studies such as load flow, short‑circuit, stability, insulation coordination, earthing and protection analyses.
- Prepare technical specifications, tender documents, bills of quantities and evaluate EPC/OEM designs.
- Provide Owner’s Engineer, Independent Engineer and Lender’s Technical Advisor support through design, construction, testing and commissioning.
Required profile
- 8–15 years of experience in transmission infrastructure design and delivery (132 kV and above).
- Proven track record across feasibility, concept, FEED and detailed design stages.
- Experience delivering projects in Middle‑East markets and familiarity with regional grid codes and utility requirements.
- Strong commercial awareness and ability to interface with utilities, developers, investors and EPC contractors.
Required skills
- High‑voltage/EHV transmission system design
- Substation, overhead line and underground cable engineering
- Power‑system studies (load flow, short‑circuit, stability, protection)
- Grid‑connection assessments for utility‑scale solar, wind, hybrid and BESS projects
- Knowledge of IEC standards and regional grid codes
- Technical leadership and mentorship of junior engineers
