Staff Nurse - Stroke Unit

About the role

Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City is hiring a full-time Staff Nurse for its stroke unit. The nurse coordinates nursing care, including direct patient care, patient and family education and transitions of care, while supporting professional nursing practice across the continuum of care and following the Abu Dhabi and UAE Professional Nurses Code of Conduct.

Key responsibilities

• Assess patients comprehensively (physical, psychosocial, emotional, cognitive and spiritual needs), interpret the data to identify diagnoses or issues, prioritize risks and document findings.
• Develop an individualized, evidence-based plan of care with the patient, family and team, set measurable outcomes and modify it as the patient's condition changes.
• Implement the plan of care with evidence-based interventions, perform treatments and procedures according to protocols, administer medications per policy and communicate relevant information across care levels.
• Provide health teaching and promotion suited to each patient's condition, using teach-back and documenting education in the health record.
• Evaluate progress toward outcomes, revise the plan of care, give clinical handovers and attend care rounds to update the attending provider.
• Integrate current evidence and research into practice, share findings with the team and take part in performance improvement projects.
• Lead by example, coordinate and supervise delegated tasks, supervise practical nurses, junior staff and student nurses, and speak up for patient safety and quality.
• Follow ethical principles, protect patient rights, report illegal or incompetent practices, respond to emergencies per policy and commit to continuous learning.

Required profile

• At least 2 years of clinical experience after qualification in an appropriate setting.
