Steward (Galley)

About the role

The Steward maintains a high standard of hospitality and cleanliness on board and manages the galley, including food preparation, service and sanitation. The role calls for a strong work ethic, attention to detail and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the cook in daily operations and in preparing every meal.
• Perform duties in line with accepted standards for safe food handling and sanitation.
• Clean all food service equipment after each use, including the preparation area and drink dispensers.
• Wipe down mess, deck and galley overheads and bulkheads with a cleaning and disinfecting solution.
• Maintain sanitation, health and safety standards and stay aware of fire, safety and emergency procedures.
• Help with cleaning, peeling and cutting of food items to company standards.
• Be familiar with the company HSE and quality policy and keep the working area clean and sanitary, as instructed by the Chief Officer or Captain.
• Alert to signs of contamination or pest infestation in the galley and storerooms and report them to the Master.
• Follow HSE regulations, use required equipment and protective gear, and report hazards or defects to the employer or supervisor.

Required profile

• At least 3 years of relevant experience in similar industries.
• Technical school certificate or equivalent professional qualification, or equivalent professional experience.
• STCW basic training, fire fighting and safety training, and other sea survival certification.
