Structural Test Technician - UAV Airframe Testing

About the role

A Structural Test Technician is sought to support the UAV Project team in validating the airframe and other UAV components through critical structural tests. The technician works with engineers to set up, run and troubleshoot static, dynamic and fatigue tests, using hands-on experience with aerospace structures, instrumentation and test equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and calibrate test rigs, load cells, strain gauges, accelerometers and other equipment; oversee the manufacture of test jigs and fixtures.
• Assist in executing static loading, vibration, fatigue and stress analysis tests.
• Operate test equipment to collect real-time data and check that sensors and data acquisition systems are accurate.
• Inspect test setups for proper alignment and safety compliance, and carry out quality checks on equipment and conditions.
• Troubleshoot issues during testing and maintain and repair test equipment.
• Document test results, note deviations or failures, and help prepare reports with recommendations.
• Work with engineers to meet design requirements and give feedback on test setups.
• Follow safety protocols for high-stress testing and keep equipment calibrated.

Required profile

• Associate degree or equivalent certification in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or at least 5-7 years of experience in a similar role.
• Hands-on experience in structural testing of aerospace, UAV or military systems, including static, dynamic and fatigue testing.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and test plans.
• Experience with safety protocols in high-stress testing environments.

Required skills

• Proficiency with load cells, strain gauges, vibration tables and data acquisition systems.
• Monitoring and troubleshooting of test equipment and data acquisition systems.
• Familiarity with aerospace materials and how they behave under stress, vibration and loading.
• Basic mechanical assembly and adjustment of test setups.
• Desirable: UAV platform experience, knowledge of composite materials, MIL-STD/ASTM standards, CAD software, and data analysis tools such as LabVIEW or MATLAB.
