Art and Design & Technology Teacher

About the role

Smart Vision School is seeking an enthusiastic, creative and ambitious Art and Design Technology Teacher to join its growing community. The role involves teaching Art across Primary, Design Technology in Key Stage 2 and Art and Design Technology in Key Stage 3, with the opportunity to shape future GCSE provision.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, high‑quality Art lessons for Primary students.
• Teach Design Technology in Key Stage 2, covering specialisms such as Food Technology, Product Design or other appropriate DT areas.
• Instruct Art and Design Technology for Key Stage 3 learners.
• Contribute to curriculum maps, schemes of learning and assessment approaches for Art and DT.
• Support the development of specialist spaces, resources and equipment.
• Help establish an ambitious pathway towards GCSE Art and/or Design Technology.
• Promote creativity, craftsmanship and high‑quality outcomes through practical learning.
• Ensure safe delivery of practical activities with appropriate risk assessments.
• Participate in exhibitions, competitions, enrichment activities and wider school events.
• Collaborate with Primary and Secondary colleagues to develop progression across creative and practical learning.

Required profile

• Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, PGDE, B.Ed or equivalent).
• Relevant degree or strong subject background in Art, Design Technology or a related discipline.
• Experience teaching Art and/or Design Technology within a British Curriculum school.
• Ability to work with students across different age ranges and manage practical classroom safety.
• High expectations for the quality and presentation of students' work.
• Commitment to inclusive education and safeguarding principles.

Required skills

• Subject knowledge in Art and a Design Technology specialism (e.g., Product Design, Resistant Materials, Food Technology, Textiles, Graphics).
• Practical classroom management and health & safety expertise.
• Effective use of technology to enhance designing and learning.
