Art and Design & Technology Teacher

About the role

Smart Vision School is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and ambitious teacher to deliver Art and Design Technology across Primary and Secondary phases. The role offers the chance to shape the future GCSE provision and contribute to a growing curriculum.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver engaging Art lessons for Primary students.
• Teach Design Technology in Key Stage 2, covering specialisms such as Food Technology, Product Design, or others.
• Instruct Art and Design Technology for Key Stage 3.
• Develop curriculum maps, schemes of learning and assessment approaches for Art and DT.
• Support the creation and maintenance of specialist Art and Design Technology spaces, resources and equipment.
• Help establish an ambitious pathway towards GCSE Art and/or Design Technology.
• Promote creativity, craftsmanship and high‑quality outcomes using technology effectively.
• Ensure safe delivery of practical activities with appropriate risk assessments.
• Contribute to exhibitions, competitions, enrichment activities and wider school events.
• Support extracurricular opportunities within Art, Design and Technology.

Required profile

• Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, PGDE, B.Ed or equivalent).
• Relevant degree or strong subject background in Art, Design Technology or related discipline.
• Experience teaching Art and/or Design Technology in a British Curriculum or similar setting.
• Ability to work with students across Primary and Secondary age ranges.
• Strong classroom management, health and safety knowledge and safe use of specialist equipment.
• High expectations for the quality and presentation of students' practical work.
• Commitment to inclusive education and safeguarding principles.

Required skills

• Art teaching techniques.
• Design Technology specialisms (e.g., Product Design, Food Technology, Resistant Materials, Textiles, Graphics).
• Use of technology to enhance design and learning.
• Risk assessment and health & safety procedures for practical workshops.
