Assistant Professor / Higher Rank in Acting

About the role

American University of Sharjah invites applications for an Assistant Professor or higher rank in Acting to begin in Fall 2026. The successful candidate will join a small, growing Performing Arts Program and contribute to a vibrant liberal‑arts environment.

Key responsibilities

• Direct all theatre productions, one each semester.
• Teach undergraduate acting courses at all levels.
• Teach additional theatre courses as needed, such as Theatre Appreciation.
• Develop new curriculum and update existing courses.
• Engage actively in creative activity, student recruitment, and serve on university committees.
• Perform other program duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Terminal degree in theatre (MFA or PhD); a degree from a North American university is preferred.
• Three or more years of university‑level teaching experience is preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership, personnel management, strong written and verbal communication, and creative problem‑solving abilities.
• Commitment to teaching undergraduates in a liberal‑arts setting and to working with ethnically and culturally diverse faculty and students.
• Ability to thrive in a small, ambitious collegiate environment.
