Child Life Therapist

About the role

The Child Life Therapist supports the emotional, developmental, psychosocial and educational needs of infants, children, adolescents and their families throughout hospitalization, treatment and rehabilitation. The role focuses on reducing anxiety, promoting coping strategies and normalising the healthcare environment through therapeutic play.

Key responsibilities

• Provide age‑appropriate therapeutic interventions to alleviate stress and fear.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers and other professionals to deliver family‑centred care.
• Develop and implement play‑based activities that support medical procedures and recovery.
• Educate families on coping techniques and resources available during the care journey.
• Document interventions and outcomes to contribute to clinical improvement.

Required profile

• Relevant qualification in Child Life, Pediatric Therapy or a related field.
• Experience working with pediatric patients in a hospital or clinical setting.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Knowledge of therapeutic play techniques.
• Understanding of child development and psychosocial needs.
• Strong communication skills with children, families and healthcare staff.
