About the role

The Head of Physical Education (Secondary) will lead the PE department at Yasmina British Academy, delivering the English National Curriculum and overseeing sport provision for GCSE and A‑Level students. Reporting to the Principal, the role is responsible for strategic direction, staff management and ensuring outstanding student achievement.

Key responsibilities

• Set the strategic vision for the department, analyse data and drive improvement planning.
• Develop and maintain an outstanding teaching and learning culture across all key stages.
• Lead, manage and appraise departmental staff, overseeing recruitment and professional development.
• Promote the department through marketing activities to raise its profile and increase student numbers.
• Develop and review schemes of work, ensuring provision for SEN/POD, G&T and EAL learners.
• Organise assessments, moderation, data collation and analysis in line with the MER calendar.
• Monitor student progress using data, home learning, observations and parental engagement.
• Communicate effectively with parents, teachers and senior leadership on student achievement.
• Lead curriculum development, resource allocation and preparation for examinations.
• Coordinate extra‑curricular events and activities that enhance student interest in sport.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a related subject with PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.
• Minimum six years of leadership experience delivering the English National Curriculum (GCSE/A‑Level) and BTEC Sport Level 2 & 3.
• Proven experience working with students for whom English is not the first language.
• Demonstrated passion for teaching and commitment to the holistic development of learners.
• High level of professionalism with a strong focus on child safeguarding and well‑being.
• Recent and consistent involvement in extracurricular activities.
