Head of Secondary School – British Curriculum

About the role

The Head of Secondary will provide strategic leadership for the secondary phase of a British‑curriculum international school in Abu Dhabi. Reporting to senior school leadership, you will be the visible academic and pastoral leader responsible for raising standards of teaching, learning and student outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Set the vision and direction for secondary education, ensuring high‑quality curriculum delivery and examination preparation.
• Lead, mentor and appraise teaching and pastoral staff, fostering professional development and career progression.
• Oversee curriculum planning, assessment strategies and ensure coherence across year groups.
• Develop and monitor policies on behaviour, safeguarding, inclusion and wellbeing.
• Analyse performance data, implement interventions and drive continuous improvement.
• Manage timetabling, staffing allocation and resource deployment to optimise learning environments.
• Represent the school to students, parents and the wider community as an approachable leader.
• Lead quality‑assurance activities, including lesson observations and external inspection preparation.

Required profile

• Relevant bachelor's degree in Education or related field; postgraduate qualification (e.g., Master's, PGCE, NPQH) desirable.
• Proven senior leadership experience in a secondary setting with demonstrable impact on pupil outcomes.
• Strong knowledge of curriculum design, assessment best practice and contemporary pedagogy.
• Experience managing budgets, resources and leading performance‑management processes.
• Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and student wellbeing.
