Hospital Attender – Patient Support & Transport

About the role

The Hospital Attender provides essential non‑clinical support to patients throughout their stay at Royal Women Hospital Abu Dhabi. Working closely with nursing and clinical teams, the role ensures patient comfort, safety and smooth movement across hospital units.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients with non‑clinical needs, including comfort measures and personal belongings.
• Provide skin preparation for pre‑operative patients when required.
• Perform portering duties: transport patients via wheelchair, stretcher or bed between units.
• Collect and return medical record files between departments.
• Support patient meal times and ensure timely delivery.
• Make beds, change linen daily and monitor linen stock.
• Clean non‑critical equipment and surfaces, dusting as needed.
• Transport specimens to the laboratory and follow infection‑control protocols for instrument handling.
• Guide patients, families and visitors to various hospital areas.
• Assist with administrative tasks such as photocopying and stock replenishment.
• Escort discharged patients to their vehicles and ensure they have necessary items.
• Prepare and distribute daily coffee and dates for public areas.
• Maintain inpatient room readiness for new admissions and ensure basic amenities are accessible.
• Participate in mandatory trainings, competency assessments and orientation of new attendants.
