Lead Tunnel Design Engineer (Rail & Metro)

About the role

Lead the delivery of TBM tunnel design for major rail and metro projects in the UAE, providing technical leadership across the full tunnel design lifecycle from concept to detailed design.

Key responsibilities

• Lead tunnel design delivery from concept through detailed design, ensuring technical quality and timely completion.
• Design TBM tunnels, including alignment, excavation methodology, segmental lining systems, waterproofing, and associated structures.
• Coordinate design activities with multidisciplinary engineering teams and manage technical interfaces.
• Review calculations, drawings, specifications, reports and other technical deliverables.
• Engage with clients, external consultants and stakeholders on design requirements and reviews.
• Provide technical direction on shafts, portals, cross passages, groundwater and related structures.
• Identify and manage technical risks, design issues, interfaces and changes throughout the design process.
• Mentor and develop the local tunnel engineering team through knowledge transfer.

Required profile

• Minimum 15 years of engineering experience with extensive tunnel design background.
• Mandatory rail and metro experience with strong tunnel design expertise.
• Proven delivery of TBM tunnel designs within an engineering consultancy.
• Experience across the complete tunnel design lifecycle from concept to detailed design.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design interfaces and working with clients and external consultants.
• Leadership experience managing technical teams and design deliverables.
