Legal Counsel – Wholesale Banking (UAE National)

About the role

Legal Counsel will provide legal support on a variety of banking and finance transactions for Mashreq’s Corporate & Investment Banking and International Banking Group. The role involves drafting, reviewing and negotiating financing documentation, advising on regulatory and legal risk, and contributing to bank‑wide strategic initiatives such as digital transformation.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate LMA‑based loan agreements, security packages and other financing documentation in line with UAE and international banking laws.
• Assist senior lawyers in complex banking and finance transactions, including bilateral and syndicated loans, structured finance and cross‑border deals.
• Provide legal advice on wholesale banking products, regulatory compliance and risk mitigation strategies.
• Support bank‑wide projects such as innovation, digital transformation and the development of legal policies, procedures and templates.
• Conduct legal research on banking and finance laws, financial services regulations and emerging legal issues.

Required profile

• UAE national with a law degree from a reputable university and admission to practice law in a recognized jurisdiction.
• Minimum three years post‑qualification experience in banking and finance law, preferably from a top‑tier law firm.
• Strong knowledge of UAE and international banking regulations, corporate finance, LMA documentation and cross‑border transactions.
• Fluent in English and Arabic with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
