Senior Associate, Strategic Asset Allocation – Public Markets

About the role

This senior associate position sits within the Public Markets team of a leading sovereign wealth investor. The role focuses on strategic allocation of capital by selecting, appointing and overseeing external fund managers across global public markets, rather than day‑to‑day trading.

Key responsibilities

• Map the investable external manager universe across asset classes, styles and geographies using databases, consultant networks, conferences and industry contacts.
• Screen managers on performance, risk, factor exposures, drawdowns, liquidity, capacity and fees to create shortlists for deeper due diligence.
• Lead qualitative and quantitative due‑diligence, meeting portfolio managers, analysts and risk officers to assess philosophy, process, portfolio construction, alpha drivers and team stability.
• Apply analytics to differentiate genuinely active managers from market beta and evaluate fee justification.
• Coordinate operational and risk due‑diligence with risk, legal and compliance teams.
• Prepare manager selection reports, investment memos and present hire/retain/redeem recommendations to investment committees.
• Negotiate mandate terms, fees, performance structures, liquidity terms and side‑letters.
• Monitor appointed managers against benchmarks, maintain conviction ratings and support rebalancing and allocation sizing decisions.

Required profile

• 5–7 years of experience in public‑markets investing with a focus on external manager selection, preferably from a pension fund, consultant, family office, sovereign wealth fund or asset manager.
• Demonstrated experience selecting hedge‑fund and liquid‑alternatives managers.
• Strong orientation toward long‑term, strategic allocation rather than active trading.
• Deep manager research ability to assess repeatability of past results.
• Solid quantitative evaluation skills across performance, factor/style and risk analysis.
• Structured decision‑making, sound risk awareness and the judgment to make clear hire/retain/terminate calls.
• Confident written and verbal communication skills to defend recommendations to investment committees.
