Senior Commissioning Engineer – Telecom

About the role

The Senior Commissioning Engineer will apply best practices and deep technical knowledge to enhance the commissioning discipline across McDermott projects. Acting as a mentor, the role supports less‑experienced colleagues and drives solutions to complex mechanical, electrical and instrumentation challenges. The engineer collaborates closely with project teams and clients to ensure safe, efficient start‑up and performance testing.

Key responsibilities

• Report to the Commissioning Manager and assist the Principal Commissioning Engineer with home‑office deliverables.
• Conduct walk‑down inspections, punch‑listing, and testing, troubleshooting mechanical, electrical and instrument issues on site.
• Develop and maintain commissioning manuals, start‑up spares, first fills, consumables, and procedures.
• Perform equipment system checks, functional testing of mechanical, electrical and instrument systems, and support start‑up and performance testing.
• Resolve operational and maintenance issues during commissioning, start‑up and performance phases.
• Supervise craft personnel for pre‑commissioning and commissioning activities.
• Coordinate activities with other engineers, discipline leads, construction and fabrication teams.
• Maintain positive relationships with the client and project team throughout the commissioning process.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering.
• 8‑15 years of oil & gas experience with a major contractor or consultant.
• Minimum 5 years in a chemical, refinery or oil & gas processing facility and at least 2 years of commissioning and start‑up experience.
• Strong communication skills to convey technical solutions to engineers and non‑engineers.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.
• Excellent organizational abilities and willingness to travel to international construction sites.
