2nd WK Electrical Engineer

About the role

The 2nd WK Electrical Engineer will support the 1st WK Electrical Engineer in maintaining and optimizing the electrical systems aboard a dredger. This role ensures reliable operation, safety, and energy efficiency of the vessel’s electrical equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the 1st WK Electrical Engineer in daily operations and maintenance of onboard electrical systems.
• Perform routine inspections and tests to identify potential issues and ensure equipment reliability.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical faults, implementing effective solutions to minimise downtime.
• Maintain accurate records of system performance and repairs, complying with industry standards.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to integrate electrical systems with onboard equipment.
• Monitor and optimise energy consumption, applying energy‑efficient practices.
• Train and supervise junior electrical engineers or technicians.
• Stay updated with the latest electrical engineering advancements and incorporate innovative solutions.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and promote a safe working environment.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in marine or dredging environments.
• Strong knowledge of power generation, distribution, and control systems.
• Proficiency with electrical testing and diagnostic equipment such as multimeters and oscilloscopes.
• Familiarity with IEC and NEC standards.
• Excellent problem‑solving and analytical abilities.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to work onboard a dredger and adapt to marine operational challenges.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or related certifications preferred.
