Associate Director - Vertical Transportation

About the role

WSP in the Middle East is seeking an experienced Associate Director to lead vertical transportation design and supervision for a range of built‑environment projects in Dubai. The ideal candidate will have extensive elevator and escalator engineering experience and a strong background in consultancy.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver specialist vertical transportation (VT) design and supervision services, ensuring code‑compliant and efficient solutions.
• Conduct detailed traffic analysis using VT simulation and performance‑analysis software to optimise system efficiency.
• Prepare technical design proposals, calculations, and client‑facing reports.
• Provide site supervision, inspection, and acceptance testing of complex VT installations.
• Coordinate with local authorities, third‑party inspectors, and client representatives to secure statutory approvals.
• Review and approve contractor submissions, including shop drawings, as‑built documentation, O&M manuals, and warranty documents.
• Integrate VT installations with IT, Telecom, ELV, and security systems.
• Maintain weekly progress reports, monitor site progress, and manage stakeholder communications.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 15+ years of experience in vertical transportation design consultancy, preferably in the GCC region.
• Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams on complex projects.
• Strong client‑facing and stakeholder management capabilities.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of EN81 suite of codes and ASME A17.1 standards.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM workflows.
• Experience using VT simulation and traffic analysis software.
