Associate Professional - Energy Transition Finance and Policy

About the role

IRENA's Knowledge, Policy and Finance Centre (KPFC) is recruiting an Associate Professional for its Renewable Energy Markets Unit in Abu Dhabi, reporting to the Team Lead, Renewable Energy Policy and Finance. The post sits in the one-year Associate Professional Programme, designed to give university graduates and postgraduates first-hand experience of IRENA's work on renewable energy adoption and growth. The indicative annual salary is USD 36,000 to 54,000, with additional benefits.

Key responsibilities

• Collect information and analyse data on energy transition finance, including financing instruments and structures, financing trends across countries and regions and supply chain investments.
• Contribute data and analysis to IRENA flagship publications such as the World Energy Transitions Outlook, Tracking the UAE consensus and SDG7 tracking.
• Assist in organising and running technical meetings, workshops, conferences and capacity-building sessions, including the IRENA General Assembly and Council meetings.
• Help prepare inputs for presentations and speeches by senior management.
• Support other projects and workstreams in the division as required.

Required profile

• First-level university degree with at least two years of relevant work experience after graduation, or an advanced degree (Master's or equivalent) in sustainable finance, climate finance, renewable energy policy, environmental economics or a related field.
• Excellent command of English; knowledge of another UN official language is an asset.
• Applicants must be no more than 32 years old at the time of application.

Required skills

• Sound knowledge of energy transition finance and renewables, ideally with experience in financing transactions, financial modelling or developing financial instruments.
• Experience in research, data collection and analysis.

What we offer

• Indicative annual salary of USD 36,000 to 54,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
• Monthly accommodation allowance (USD 1,600) and relocation grants (USD 1,200) and installation grant (USD 1,300) if relocation is involved.
