Attorney Advisor – Intellectual Property (Abu Dhabi)

About the role

The U.S. International Trade Administration/Global Markets and the United States Patent and Trademark Office are seeking an experienced intellectual property attorney to serve as an IP Advisor in Abu Dhabi. This position supports U.S. diplomatic and commercial objectives by promoting stronger IP protection across the Middle East and North Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the USPTO representative on U.S. delegations to international IP meetings and negotiations.
• Develop and implement strategic plans to improve patent, trademark, and copyright regimes in host countries.
• Provide expert guidance to U.S. businesses facing IP challenges in the UAE and the broader MENA region.
• Coordinate with the Economics Section, other embassy units, and USPTO headquarters to design outreach programs and public‑awareness initiatives.
• Manage local staff and oversee program areas related to international trade and IP.

Required profile

• Minimum four (4) years of general law practice.
• At least one (1) year of specialized experience at a level equivalent to a GS‑14 federal position.
• Demonstrated expertise in intellectual property law, international trade, and legislative processes.
• Ability to work effectively with U.S. government agencies, foreign governments, and private sector stakeholders.
