Building and Grounds Officer

About the role

The Building and Grounds Officer is responsible for planning, organizing and supervising the maintenance, repair and alteration of school buildings, grounds and facilities. The role ensures that all work is completed efficiently, complies with regulatory guidelines and meets SABIS requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise school operations, maintenance services, security operations and implementation of new programs or processes.
• Inspect new construction, repair work, grounds, special projects, equipment, work orders and daily maintenance to ensure efficient completion.
• Research new products, recommend purchases and maintain a wide range of services.
• Respond to maintenance‑related inquiries from stakeholders, providing information or referring to appropriate personnel.
• Develop and oversee preventive maintenance plans to avoid equipment problems and defects.
• Plan work assignments and actively supervise grounds‑keeping services to keep the campus attractive and well‑kept.
• Inspect grounds personnel work, direct corrective actions and coordinate training on safe tool and equipment use.
• Maintain a safe campus by removing obstacles and checking facilities such as toilets, lighting, glass, AC, gym equipment and swimming‑pool filtration.
• Perform general maintenance including painting, AC maintenance, electrical surveys and repairs, plumbing, renovations and fire‑extinguisher checks.
• Establish and maintain a maintenance request procedure and schedule preventive maintenance for ACs, lifts, pumps and pool filters.
• Participate in safety drills and support emergency response activities.
