Careers Counsellor – Student Guidance & Development

About the role

GEMS Education is seeking a dedicated Careers Counsellor to support students in exploring future pathways, making informed academic choices, and preparing for higher education or employment. You will act as a trusted advisor, fostering confidence and clarity in students' career journeys.

Key responsibilities

• Guide students through career exploration, goal‑setting, and planning, including university applications and subject selection.
• Organise and deliver career talks, fairs, and workshops to raise awareness of local and international opportunities.
• Communicate with parents about student well‑being while respecting confidentiality.
• Support school staff in recognising and managing mental‑health and safeguarding concerns.
• Stay up‑to‑date with child‑protection policies, liaise with the Designated Safeguarding Lead, and promote the counselling service.
• Collaborate with external agencies, attend CPD events, and provide regular reports on the counselling programme.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counselling, Education or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Certification in School Counselling and/or Career Guidance is an advantage.
• Minimum three years of experience in a school or educational setting.
• Strong understanding of child development, safeguarding, and pastoral care.
• Excellent communication, empathy, and interpersonal abilities.
