Child Life Therapist

About the role

A recruitment consultant is looking for a compassionate and experienced Child Life Therapist to join a client's team in Abu Dhabi. The role sits within one of the UAE's largest government-affiliated healthcare networks, known for its patient-centered approach and specialized pediatric care. The therapist supports children and their families through hospitalization, illness and medical procedures with emotional support, therapeutic play and age-appropriate education.

Key responsibilities

• Provide counseling and psychosocial support to patients and families facing medical, emotional and social challenges.
• Assess patients' social, emotional and financial needs and develop appropriate care plans.
• Act as a liaison between patients, families, healthcare providers and community resources.
• Support families coping with long-term illness, rehabilitation and end-of-life care.
• Assist in discharge planning and coordinate post-hospitalization services.
• Advocate for patients' rights and ensure they receive adequate support and resources.
• Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, interventions and referrals.
• Conduct awareness and educational sessions as part of holistic healthcare delivery.
• Adhere to ethical standards, confidentiality and cultural sensitivity.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Child Life, Psychology, Counseling or a related field.
• Certification as a Child Life Specialist (CCLS) or equivalent strongly preferred.
• Valid UAE healthcare professional license or eligibility to obtain one.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in a pediatric hospital or clinical setting.
• Strong understanding of child development and pediatric psychosocial care.
