Job description
About the role
Collins Aerospace, part of RTX, is looking for a Communications Systems Modelling & Simulation (M&S) Engineer (CMSE) to join its Connected Battlespace Lab (CBL) programme. The role starts with a three-month initiation and training period in the UK, followed by a four-year assignment in Abu Dhabi, UAE, supporting a long-term communications systems M&S laboratory and academics programme. It is primarily based in the UAE, so the candidate must pass background and pre-hire immigration checks and be eligible to obtain the right to work and reside there. The position is not available to US candidates because the programme must remain ITAR free.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the in-country communications M&S subject matter expert for Collins Aerospace CBL activities.
- Teach Communications Systems and M&S concepts in the CBL Foundations course and mentor students, assessing their understanding and proficiency.
- Support the instructional design of the course and advise on CBL policies and procedures.
- Help install the CBL at a UAE site and run in-lab M&S project design, planning, execution and analysis with Emirati graduates.
- Mentor apprentice-level Technical Leads and Systems Engineers through on-the-job training.
- Build knowledge of UAE MOD communications systems such as networks, RF datalinks, 5G/6G, SATCOM, encryption devices, radios, EW, AI-enabled communications, SDR and more.
- Use M&S tools (e.g. Ansys, MATLAB) to build communications system models and simulations, analyse results and propose optimisations.
- Work with reach-back support engineers and SMEs to maintain expertise across the course topics and technical areas.
Required profile
- Strong verbal and written English, with understanding of Arabic culture and sensitivity to the Islamic environment.
- 12+ years of communications systems experience and 5+ years of M&S experience.
- Experience teaching or mentoring junior technical personnel and students, and in classroom teaching and self-guided learning guidance.
- Military communications systems experience (datalinks, networks, radios, RF).
- Ability to plan and lead M&S projects, define requirements, assess risks and present results to senior decision makers.
- Eligible to obtain the right to work and reside in the UAE; the company supports the application process.
Required skills
- Preferred: scripting languages such as Python and PowerShell.
- Preferred: STKs, software adapters, AI agents, MATLAB, Ansys and agile software development.
- Preferred: familiarity with IT infrastructure software such as MS Server, and experience in the Middle East or with Arab cultures.
