Compliance Lead

About the role

Pemo is building a compliance function to support its upcoming CBUAE licence. This founding role will create and own the compliance framework, acting as the main liaison with the Central Bank of the UAE.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the relationship with the CBUAE, handling correspondence, inspections, information requests and supervisory dialogue.
• Lead the compliance workstream for the CBUAE licensing programme and keep the company audit‑ready.
• Implement and maintain a risk‑based Compliance Monitoring Programme, enterprise‑wide risk assessments and regular compliance reviews.
• Own the AML/CFT programme as MLRO, including CDD, KYB, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring and STR filing.
• Track regulatory changes, assess business impact and drive implementation with relevant owners.
• Prepare compliance reports for the CBUAE, senior management and the Board.

Required profile

• 7+ years of experience in compliance or AML/CFT within regulated financial services, fintech or payments.
• Direct experience with the CBUAE, including inspections, licensing or regulatory submissions.
• Strong knowledge of UAE AML/CFT laws and the CBUAE framework, preferably Stored Value Facilities and Retail Payment Services regulations.
• Proven track record of building compliance frameworks, not just operating them.
• Eligibility for CBUAE approval as a compliance officer or MLRO.
