Construction Superintendent - Shutdown

About the role

Wood is looking for an experienced Construction Superintendent to oversee and coordinate all on-site activities for a shutdown project for a high-profile client. The role ensures projects are completed on time, within budget and to quality and safety standards, and generally covers projects or subsets of projects valued above USD 500 million.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure the quality and integrity of each project, keeping it on schedule and within budget
• Oversee the total construction field effort so that work follows design, specifications, budgets and schedules
• Manage and control the cost and schedule of assigned disciplines or subsets of on-site construction
• Supervise all areas on small projects or a subset of disciplines on larger projects
• Coordinate installation, commissioning and completion of materials and equipment, and field personnel schedules
• Monitor work progress against the plan and report on it
• Ensure safety, quality and environmental responsibilities are defined and communicated to workers, and that workers receive appropriate training and inductions
• Run toolbox meetings, inspections and risk assessments, and initiate safety, quality and environmental processes
• Use commercial processes to capture variations and coordinate supply of equipment, subcontractors, consumables and accommodation
• Manage the industrial relations environment on site and work with engineering during design to improve constructability

Required profile

• Degree with at least 20 years of oil and gas experience, including at least 5 years on major capital projects (over USD 500 million) with a focus on construction and site management
• Experience in an oil and gas operating company is highly desired and may be considered in lieu of capital project experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong command of English
• Willingness to travel extensively for multi-week periods and to adjust work location to project needs
• Qualified to obtain a CICPA and a UAE work visa
