Consultant – Anaesthesia

About the role

The Hospital is seeking an experienced Anaesthesia Consultant to lead and optimise anaesthetic services. The role involves direct patient care, coordination with surgical teams, and oversight of anaesthesia staff to ensure the highest standards of safety and quality.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain anaesthesia procedures and clinical practice guidelines.
• Monitor patients before, during and after anaesthesia, managing any adverse reactions.
• Administer anaesthetic agents using local, intravenous, spinal, epidural or caudal techniques, including painless labour (epidural analgesia).
• Collaborate with operating‑theatre staff, surgeons and department directors to coordinate anaesthetic delivery.
• Supervise and direct nurses, technicians and other healthcare providers within the anaesthesia department.
• Maintain accurate records of anaesthetic type, dosage and patient condition throughout procedures.
• Ensure staffing, equipment, privileging and quality‑control programs meet regulatory and hospital standards.
• Provide education to students and staff on anaesthesia methods, complications and emergency response.

Required profile

• Medical degree with active anaesthesia privileges renewable every two years.
• Extensive experience in anaesthetic practice across surgical, obstetric and emergency settings.
• Proven ability to lead a multidisciplinary team and manage departmental resources.
• Commitment to continuous quality improvement and patient safety.

Required skills

• Ultrasound‑guided regional anaesthesia and nerve block techniques.
• Airway management and advanced life‑support proficiency.
• Administration of anaesthetic agents (local, IV, spinal, epidural, caudal).
• Patient monitoring and documentation during anaesthetic care.
