Consultant - Anatomic Pathology

About the role

Royal Khalifa City Hospital Abu Dhabi is recruiting a Consultant in Anatomic Pathology to direct the activities of its pathology department. The consultant studies the nature, cause and development of diseases, diagnoses conditions from tissue, fluids and other specimens using laboratory procedures, and acts as a consultant to other medical practitioners.

Key responsibilities

• Perform duties within the privileges delineated by the credential committee.
• Organize the work of the Laboratory Department and train laboratory technicians and phlebotomists.
• Maintain quality control procedures in line with HAAD requirements.
• Analyze, interpret and report clinical biochemistry, clinical pathology, hematology, immunology, histopathology, cytopathology, transfusion practices and other tests according to health authority guidelines.
• Implement laboratory safety protocols and liaise with HAAD, the Ministry of Health blood transfusion services and reference laboratories.
• Take part in in-house and external CME programs for continued professional development.
• Contribute to the hospital infection control committee, including the infection control manual, and help develop policies and procedures with other committees.
• Keep patient and administrative information confidential and carry out other duties assigned by the HOD and Medical Director.

Required profile

• Medical school graduation, one year of internship and three years of residency, with an MD in Pathology.
• At least three years of experience managing all types of laboratory tests and techniques across all patient groups.
• Excellent command of spoken and written English; knowledge of Arabic is desirable but not essential.
• Current licensure in the country of origin and a valid HAAD license to practice in Abu Dhabi.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with colleagues, superiors, patients and families.
