Consultant Physician - Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

About the role

The Consultant Physician in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) leads and supervises the delivery of high‑quality, evidence‑based care. The role involves diagnosing, managing and treating all patients under the post holder’s care while serving as a clinical exemplar and providing leadership and training to junior medical staff.

Key responsibilities

• Support and implement hospital, departmental and divisional policies and initiatives.
• Lead performance management processes, including peer review and productivity/utilization reviews.
• Assist the Division Chief with scheduling, recruitment and ensuring continuous medical coverage.
• Oversee clinical activities of junior staff, ensuring compliance with admission, consultation, surgical, discharge and follow‑up protocols.
• Lead ward rounds, reassess in‑patients and out‑patients, document clinical information promptly, and modify treatment based on investigation results.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, coordinate referrals, and provide on‑call coverage on a rotational basis.
• Promote quality improvement, audit culture, incident reporting and continuous learning within the department.
• Guide junior staff, facilitate essential training, maintain CME commitments, and engage in clinical research and publication.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of post‑board‑certification experience as a consultant (Tier 1) or 8 years full‑time consultant experience (Tier 2) in an internationally accredited institute.
• For UAE nationals, clinical fellowship training from approved countries counts double toward experience.
• Relevant medical qualification (Tier 1 or Tier 2), current national medical license, and proof of yearly CME.
