Crane Mechanical Technician – Steel Industry

About the role

The company is seeking an experienced Crane Mechanical Technician to maintain and repair EOT and overhead cranes in a steel plant. You will work on preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance to ensure continuous, safe operation of critical lifting equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance on EOT and overhead cranes.
• Inspect mechanical components (gearboxes, couplings, brakes, bearings, wheels, shafts, wire ropes, drums, sheaves, hooks) for wear, damage, vibration or misalignment.
• Carry out repair and replacement of hoisting, cross‑travel and long‑travel mechanisms.
• Conduct wire‑rope inspection, replacement and correct installation.
• Inspect, adjust and replace brakes and crane wheels as required.
• Respond to emergency crane breakdowns and restore equipment with minimal downtime.
• Participate in planned shutdowns, major overhauls and annual maintenance activities.
• Maintain lubrication schedules, routine inspections and detailed maintenance records.
• Support root‑cause analysis of recurring mechanical failures.
• Coordinate with electrical and instrumentation teams during maintenance tasks.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical maintenance of cranes within the steel industry.
• ITI/Diploma or equivalent technical qualification.
• Strong knowledge of crane mechanical systems and safety procedures (SOPs, LOTO, PPE).
• Ability to work in a high‑temperature, industrial environment and follow strict housekeeping standards.
