Cutter Captain – Self‑Propelled Dredger

About the role

The Cutter Captain commands a Self‑Propelled Cutter Suction Dredger (SPCSD) for NMDC Dredging and Marine in Abu Dhabi. The role ensures safe navigation, efficient dredging operations and full compliance with international maritime regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Command and operate the SPCSD safely, handling navigation, anchoring, positioning and dredging activities in varying weather and sea conditions.
• Plan, supervise and monitor dredging production, cutter performance, slurry flow and operational parameters to meet project targets.
• Maintain vessel safety, crew management, environmental compliance and adherence to ISM Code, SOLAS, MARPOL and flag state regulations.
• Coordinate with Project Management, Production, Survey, Technical and Chief Engineer to ensure machinery readiness, maintenance planning and operational reliability.
• Conduct toolbox talks, safety meetings, emergency drills and risk assessments, and keep accurate logbooks and statutory documentation.

Required profile

• Master (Unlimited) certificate with basic and advanced STCW training.
• 5‑10 years of rank experience aboard a Self‑Propelled Cutter Suction Dredger.
• Proven ability to manage crew, ensure safety culture and handle emergency response situations.
• Strong communication with port authorities, clients, pilots and marine coordinators.
